Pakistan boxers refused visa for Ukraine

KARACHI: Pakistan boxers will not participate in the Mazai Memorial International Boxing Championship due to visa refusal by the Ukrainian embassy.

The Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) secretary Akram Khan told The Express Tribune, “It’s a setback for our boxers as they will be deprived of international exposure ahead of the upcoming Commonwealth and the Asian Games.”

The PBF planned on sending five players to Ukraine for the six-day tournament that starts on July 6. However, Khan said that the boxers will still be able to get some exposure for the Games as they head to China in August for the Combat Games.

“We will send our boxers to China for the Combat Games and hopefully they’ll get good practice ahead of the Commonwealth Games,” said Khan.

Meanwhile, these players will attend a training camp under the supervision of coach Francisco Hernandez.
