Kohli returns to top 5 as Shaheen, Rizwan slip in latest ICC ODI rankings

India continue to assert their dominance in the ICC ODI rankings, with Virat Kohli’s match-winning century against Pakistan propelling him back into the top five of the ICC Men’s Player Rankings for batters.

Kohli’s unbeaten 51st ODI century in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash in Dubai on Sunday has earned him a place in the top five, moving up to fifth in the latest rankings update. His knock helped India secure a crucial victory over their arch-rivals and reinforced their stronghold in the batting rankings.

With Kohli’s rise, India now have three batters inside the top five, as Shubman Gill retains his position at the top and captain Rohit Sharma remains third. Gill extended his lead at No. 1 to 47 rating points, while Pakistan’s Babar Azam stays second despite struggling for form in the tournament.

Several key Pakistan players have seen a drop in the latest ICC ODI rankings, following their underwhelming performances in recent matches.

Fakhar Zaman, who made a return to the tournament during the tri-nation ODI series after initially being ruled out, has dropped three places to 17th position with 621 rating points.

Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan's white-ball captain, has also seen a decline, falling four spots from 16th to 20th place with 616 points. Rizwan’s performances, including just three runs against New Zealand and 46 runs against India, contributed to this drop.

Imam-ul-Haq, despite scoring only 10 runs in his ODI comeback against India in Dubai, has held on to his 32nd position with 582 rating points.

Saim Ayub, who has been sidelined since suffering an injury during the South Africa Test series, has slipped eight places to 35th position with 572 rating points.

Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi has experienced a significant drop following his underperformances in the ongoing tournament. He has fallen five places, dropping from 4th to 9th with 619 rating points.

Right-arm pacer Haris Rauf has also seen a decline, slipping six places to 22nd position with 553 points. Meanwhile, Naseem Shah has made a positive move, rising two spots to 42nd with 491 rating points.

While Kohli was the only player to break into the top 10, several others made significant strides.

Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana remains the top-ranked ODI bowler despite his team’s absence from the Champions Trophy, while Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan stays second.

South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj climbs one place to joint fourth, while Matt Henry (New Zealand) and Adam Zampa (Australia) rise to sixth and 10th, respectively.
