The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday issued an injunction order against the ongoing projects of the District Development Initiative (DDI) program in various districts and sought a response from the government.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Fazal Subhan and Justice Farah Jamshed of PHC heard the writ petition.
The case was pursued by Sultan Muhammad Khan Advocate on behalf of the petitioners MPA Nisar Baz, Tariq Awan and Arbab Waseem.
He told the court that the petitioners are elected MPAs and belong to the opposition, so the provincial government has been ignoring the petitioners in allocations of development funds.
The provincial government is discriminating in development projects and funds in the districts, including Bajaur, which is equal to discriminating against the people of these constituencies.
He told the court that the provincial government has released funds for the District Development Initiative Scheme.
He maintained that DDI scheme also comes under the umbrella scheme. The provincial government also released tenders for the DDI scheme, but the opposition members of Assembly are being ignored in this scheme as well.
He requested the court to issue an injunction on the DDI scheme. The court issued a notice to the government on the petition related to the DDI scheme and sought its reply while issuing an injunction.
Speaking to the media after the hearing of the case, Awami National Party (ANP) leader and elected MPA from Bajaur Nisar Baz said that the provincial government is distributing funds unfairly, forcing them to move to court against it.
The provincial government is pushing the opposition members to the wall in the distribution of funds. Due to non-availability of funds, no development work is being done in our areas.
