Lewis Hamilton has embraced Italian culture since joining Ferrari—but his biggest concern isn’t on the track. The seven-time F1 champion humorously admitted he’s been indulging in “three pizzas a week” and might struggle to fit into his Ferrari if he continues.
Hamilton made the lighthearted confession while discussing his move from Mercedes to Ferrari, where he will attempt to end the team’s championship drought dating back to Kimi Räikkönen’s 2007 title. Despite his love for Italian food, he insists he’s keeping an eye on his diet. “I have to be careful and I can’t eat pizza all year round. Otherwise, I won’t fit in the car anymore,” he joked.
The Brit’s connection to Italy dates back to his karting days, when he raced in the Open Italian Championship alongside Nico Rosberg. He fondly recalled how he and Rosberg would buy pizza and ice cream every evening, with his first mechanic’s mother making him unforgettable lasagne. “I have never forgotten that lasagne to this day,” Hamilton shared.
Although pizza has become a frequent indulgence, Hamilton revealed that his all-time favorite dish remains Penne all’Arrabbiata, a classic spicy Italian pasta.
As he prepares for his Ferrari debut at pre-season testing in Bahrain, Hamilton’s arrival has already shaken the F1 driver market, leading to Carlos Sainz’s exit from Ferrari and a reshuffled grid for 2025. Alongside teammate Charles Leclerc, Hamilton hopes to return Ferrari to its former glory.
