VEHARI:

A woman was allegedly strangled to death by her former husband and father, just hours after she had sought police protection in village 54 WB.

Police said the victim, Nuzhat Parveen, daughter of Mumtaz Hussain, had been living at her father's house with her three children following her divorce.

On Sunday, her father and former husband allegedly strangled her with a rope before fleeing the scene.

Local residents reported that Nuzhat had earlier sought help from the police, calling Police Helpline 15 to report harassment by her ex-husband.

She was taken to the Thengi police station for protection, but instead of being sent to a shelter, she was reportedly handed over to her father on his assurance. Just a few hours later, she was killed.

Police confirmed that a case has been registered, and efforts are underway to arrest the suspects.

Authorities also noted that the victim's ex-husband had been harassing her even after their divorce, which had led to her seeking police assistance.

Social activists, including Muhammad Tahir, Zakir Shaheen, Shahid Mehmood Mirza, Bushra, Muqadas, and Saaima Batool, condemned the brutal killing, calling it an alarming example of the growing violence against women. They urged DPO Mansoor Aman and the government to take stronger measures to protect women and enforce strict laws to prevent such incidents.
