Police from various stations in the city presented a total of 115 kite flyers and sellers arrested during the Basant festival on Friday in court.
Of these, 55 kite flyers were granted bail, while 49 were sent to jail on judicial remand. Notices for bail hearings will be issued on Monday (today).
Twelve minor students received severe reprimands, signed apology letters, and were released with a strict warning. The kite flyers also faced stern rebukes in court.
One day later, police formally acknowledged the severe aerial firing and kite flying incidents, which had been previously denied by police officers, who were sending total control messages to Lahore. In the registered cases, the police added charges for aerial firing and weapon recovery.
A large number of lawyers appeared to represent the kite flyers in court. The arrested minors and their parents were severely scolded, with the children receiving stern warnings and being released after their handcuffs were removed.
The judge reprimanded the students, stating, "Your annual exams are approaching, yet you're flying kites. Don't you feel ashamed? These are the days for studying." The minor children, after a solemn promise not to fly kites again, were unconditionally pardoned.
