ISLAMABAD:

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) detected several irregularities and discrepancies, while reviewing the audit paras of the industry ministry and issued directive for necessary action, and formed a subcommittee on the downsizing of the Utility Stores.

PAC met here with its chairman Junaid Akbar in the chair. It was revealed during the meeting that chief executive officer CEO of the Engineering Development Board (EDB) got extension to his tenure without approval of the prime minister. The committee postponed the matter until next meeting.

It was revealed that the encroachment of the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) land continued. PAC was informed that 54 acres of land of the PSM was allotted to three universities, which was cancelled later, and the land was given to four people.

PAC expressed its displeasure with the delay in the announcement of the Central Superior Services (CSS) results by the Federal Public Service Commission (FBSC). The committee was informed that the results would be announced next month. It directed for clearing the appointment of the FPSC members.

While reviewing the audit paras related to the PSM, the committee considered the issue of irregular payments of more than Rs1 billion because residential status of the electricity meters of PSM had not yet been granted.

It was revealed that 54 acres of land of PSM was given to three universities, then cancelled and given to four people.
