MQM-P Central Committee Member Dr Farooq Sattar has strongly criticised the Sindh government for its "failure to address the growing menace of reckless dumper trucks" in the metropolitan city.
While addressing a press conference at the MQM Markaz Bahadurabad on Sunday, he accused the PPP of ruling Sindh for 16 years without taking measures to ensure public safety.
"More than 100 people have lost their lives in traffic accidents involving dumpers within the past two months, which shows the increasing lawlessness on the city's roads," he said, adding that Karachi, which has in the past battled various mafias, is now facing a new threat in the form of a "dumper-tanker mafia."
While referring to the recent arrest of MQM chief Afaq Ahmed, Dr Sattar expressed concern over growing public anger.
"Why Afaq Ahmed was arrested for a supposedly provocative statement while those responsible for the deadly dumper accidents continue to roam free," he questioned.
He denied any involvement of MQM-P or Afaq Ahmed in the arson attacks on dumper trucks, saying that the people's frustration has reached its limit.
