QUETTA:

A Levies officer was martyred and two others sustained injuries while fighting against terrorists, who attacked their check post in the Kalat district of Balochistan on Sunday, a Balochistan government spokesperson said in a statement.

Spokesperson Shahid Rind said that the brave Levies Force soldiers responded promptly to the attack, forcing the terrorists to flee. "We pay tributes to the martyred Levies officer," Rind said. "The injured have been shifted to Quetta," he added.

The spokesperson stated that a search operation was under way to arrest the culprits, adding that instructions in this regard had been issued to the Levies force. He said that the sacrifices of the security forces for the restoration of peace would not go in vain.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, in a tweet on X, identified the martyred official as Ali Nawaz, and offered his condolences to the bereaved family. The chief minister praised the Levies force for "their courageous action" and said that their bravery and sacrifices would be remembered.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the terrorist attack on Levies check post and paid rich tributes to Shaheed official Ali Nawaz, the Prime Minister's Office Media Wing said in a press release. He also prayed for the early recovery of the injured.

He said he saluted the martyred officer for sacrificing his life for the sake of peace in the country. "Terrorists are the enemies of the development and progress of Balochistan province," the prime minister said, reiterating that nefarious designs of the terrorists would not succeed.
