San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was pulled over by police after they suspected he had stolen his brand-new $90,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.
Aiyuk recorded the encounter, explaining to the officer that he had just purchased the vehicle, which is commonly targeted by car thieves.
The officer, who was unfamiliar with Aiyuk, initially questioned the ownership but later confirmed the details and allowed him to leave.
Aiyuk, who was driving at 53 mph, noted that he had been pulled over just after his car had reached 55 miles on the odometer.
Aiyuk shared the incident on his YouTube channel, highlighting the unusual nature of the stop.
The encounter also underscored the disconnect between professional athletes and public recognition.
The situation raises broader discussions on vehicle theft and profiling, particularly regarding high-value cars. Racial profiling, especially in the United States, has become a central issue.
Aiyuk, currently recovering from injury, may address the incident further in media appearances.
