Social media reacts to Paul George scoring only 2 as 76ers fall to Nets
Paul George endured a night to forget as the Philadelphia 76ers fell 100-96 to the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday, extending their losing streak to five games.
With Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Kyle Lowry, and Eric Gordon all sidelined, the Sixers needed their marquee offseason signing to carry the scoring load.
Instead, George delivered one of his worst performances of the season, finishing with just 2 points on 1-for-7 shooting.
The nine-time All-Star was ineffective throughout, failing to register a single point in the first half. His only basket of the game, a mid-range jumper, came early in the third quarter.
Despite his struggles, George contributed defensively with six rebounds, four assists, two steals, and three blocks, but his lack of offensive aggression proved costly for the short-handed Sixers.
“They just blitzed me anytime I had the ball,” George said postgame. “Whether it was pick-and-roll, whether I had it up top, I tried to just counter that with playing through my teammates. We got good shots for the most part. It just wasn’t enough shots made.”
Social media had a field day with George's poor performance. NBA fans ripped into him post-match on X (formerly Twitter).
With George struggling, Kelly Oubre Jr. and Quentin Grimes shouldered the offensive burden, each posting a season-high 30 points. However, it wasn’t enough to overcome the Nets, who secured their third straight win.
The loss dropped the 76ers to 20-34, while Brooklyn improved to the same record. Philadelphia now enters the All-Star break on a low note, having lost seven of their last eight games.
