KARACHI:

A deadly fire at a house in Korangi on Monday morning turned out to be a case of intentional arson, police investigation revealed on Wednesday.

The fire broke out at the house of Rashid situated near the Bagh-e-Korangi graveyard within the remits of Awami Colony police station. Police said that 45-year-old Gulshan, wife of Rashid, her son, Ahmed, and daughter, Asma, were severely burnt and rushed to the Civil Hospital.

According to SHO of PS Awami Colony, Rashid, the deceased woman's husband, recorded a statement at the hospital in which he alleged that his brother-in-law, Dilawar, had deliberately set the house on fire by pouring petrol in the family's absence. The Crime Scene Unit was called in to collect evidence from the house. Fire brigade personnel, who had responded to the blaze, reported detecting the strong smell of petrol at the scene. However, despite their suspicions, no definitive evidence was found in the house to confirm that petrol was the cause of the fire.
