RAWALPINDI:

The mysterious death of a 17-year-old college student in Rawalpindi's Jatli area has been confirmed by the police as an 'honour killing.'

A spokesperson for the police said the shocking revelations came to light following the victim's mother's statement.

According to police investigations, the girl was allegedly poisoned by her fiancé's father—who was also her paternal uncle—after she left the house.

The family quietly buried her without informing authorities.

A case has been registered for murder and concealment of evidence, and police have launched raids to arrest the suspect.

The victim's grave has been exhumed, and a post-mortem examination has been conducted, with forensic samples sent to the relevant agency, the spokesperson said.

He said a police officer stationed for security duty at Jatli police station reported that while on duty at a place, he received information that a 17-year-old girl, identified as Naileen Zahra, had suddenly gone missing from her home on the night of February 3.

Her father and uncle searched for her and found her at Syed Adda, bringing her back home. However, the next day, news spread that she had died and had already been buried in the local graveyard.

Suspecting foul play, authorities initiated an investigation, believing she may have been poisoned or suffocated in an 'honour killing' before being hastily buried.

Police registered an initial report under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code and sought court approval for exhumation and post-mortem.

"During interrogation, the victim's mother, Uzma Batool, made a startling revelation," the police spokesperson said.

She disclosed that Naileen Zahra was engaged to Aun, the son of her paternal uncle, Waseem Raza. The families lived together in the same house.

On the night of February 3, when Zahra was found and brought home, Waseem Raza took her into a room.
