Soccer legend Lionel Messi attended Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans with his family and Inter Miami teammates Suárez, Busquets, and Alba.

While Messi himself sported an Adidas-branded sweater, his sons showcased a split allegiance—two wore Kansas City Chiefs jerseys for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, while his eldest, Thiago, supported the Philadelphia Eagles in a Jalen Hurts No. 1 jersey.

Messi has no official stake in the Chiefs-Eagles rivalry, but he previously met Mahomes before a soccer match last year. That encounter, plus his sons' preference for the Chiefs, suggests he might be leaning toward Kansas City. Mahomes, when asked about Messi attending the Super Bowl, praised him as “the GOAT of his profession” and expressed excitement about performing in front of such a legendary athlete.

Messi’s appearance at the Super Bowl comes just days before he returns to action with Inter Miami. His team kicks off the 2025 MLS season against New York City FC on Feb. 22 and will compete in major tournaments, including the FIFA Club World Cup and the Concacaf Champions Cup.

Beyond the pitch, Messi continues to make an impact in American sports culture. His 2024 Super Bowl commercial with Michelob Ultra, featuring NFL legend Dan Marino, was one of the most talked-about ads of the year. With over 500 million Instagram followers, Messi remains one of the most recognizable athletes in the world.
