RAWALPINDI:

To promote a healthier Punjab, the first-ever Chief Minister Punjab Mini Marathon Road Race 2025 was held on Sunday, originating from Liaquat Bagh Sports Complex to Iqbal Park, Shamsabad, on Murree Road.

The six-kilometre Mini Marathon featured three different categories: Under-19, Open, and Seniors. Over 2,000 athletes participated in the event, and the winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates.

The event was organised by the district sports department under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, and the slogan "Run for Unity, and Revival of Sports in Punjab." Participants of all ages—children, youth, and the elderly—took part without regard for age, competing on the designated six-kilometre track.

The marathon began at Liaquat Bagh Sports Complex, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Coordination Rawalpindi Dr Ihsan Tariq inaugurated the race. For the Chief Minister's Punjab Mini Marathon Race 2025, three categories were introduced: the first for under-19 participants, the second for open participants, and the third for athletes and citizens over the age of 50.

Participants under 19, as well as adults and senior citizens, raced with great enthusiasm to claim victory, competing fiercely for the top position. The race concluded at Allama Iqbal Park, Shamsabad. Many participants praised the event, calling it a positive initiative by the provincial chief executive and the Punjab government.

After the marathon, a ceremony was held at the Shahbaz Sharif Sports Complex, Double Road.
