Yet another fatal accident in the coal mine in Darra Adam Khel claimed the lives of two workers from Shangla.
Both the unfortunate colliers belonged to Dherai and Puran areas of Shangla district.
The bodies of colliers Rehman Ali and Sarbali Khan were laid to rest in their native villages on Sunday. The tragic deaths of Shangla miners in coal pits have almost become a routine without inviting any attention from the quarters concerned.
Despite these deadly accidents, locals still send their children to these death traps as there are no employment opportunities locally and most of these people are illiterate.
Local residents told The Express Tribune elected members of the assembly from Shangla are treating the people of their area unfairly, like a stepmother.
"All their efforts are limited to blame games and accusations against each other during such incidents, but they show no interest in taking practical steps to resolve the issue," they said.
"They constantly complain about the province's power shortages and make excuses, delivering emotional speeches and offering false consolations. Instead of taking real action, they simply provide some financial aid to victims' families and consider their duty fulfilled," they lamented.
