US President Donald Trump has said he has no plans to deport Prince Harry, stating that the self-exiled royal has “enough problems” with his wife, Meghan Markle.

In an interview with the New York Post, Trump was asked about ongoing speculation regarding Harry’s US immigration status and whether he would remove him from the country.

“I don’t want to do that. I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible,” Trump said.

Trump’s remarks come amid a legal push by the Heritage Foundation, a right-wing think tank, to uncover details about Harry’s US visa application. The group is demanding the release of the Duke of Sussex’s immigration paperwork, citing his past admissions of drug use in his memoir, Spare.

The think tank has sued the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) after its Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was denied. The lawsuit argues that Harry may have misrepresented his drug use or received special treatment under the Biden administration.

This week, US District Judge Carl Nichols stated he is considering whether to release additional records and whether to appoint an outside expert to review the case. Nichols has seen some, but not all of Harry’s immigration documents.

Trump has repeatedly criticised Meghan Markle, dating back to 2016, when she called him a “misogynist” and “divisive” before she had met Prince Harry.

In 2019, Trump dismissed her comments, saying, “I didn’t know she was nasty.” He later remarked, “I’m not a fan of her. I wish a lot of luck to Harry, he’s going to need it.”

Ahead of the 2020 US presidential election, Harry appeared in a video urging voters to “reject hate speech, misinformation, and online negativity”, which many interpreted as a veiled criticism of Trump.

Last year, before his re-election, Trump told the Express US that he would not “protect” Harry, stating:

“He betrayed the Queen. That’s unforgivable. He would be on his own if it was down to me.”

In his latest remarks, Trump also described Prince Harry as “whipped” by Meghan, but took a more positive tone when discussing his older brother, Prince William, whom he met in December 2024 at the Notre-Dame Cathedral reopening in Paris.

“I think William is a great young man,” Trump said.

As the legal battle over Harry’s immigration status continues, Trump’s comments highlight the ongoing political and public scrutiny surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in the US.
