Two dealers involved in the illegal trade of precious snakes and parrots were arrested in Lahore’s Model Town area by wildlife authorities.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of the Director General of Punjab Wildlife, Mudassar Riaz Malik, Express News reported.
Deputy Director of Wildlife Lahore Region, Asim Kamran, led the crackdown, which resulted in the seizure of an illegal snake dealer and a confiscated python.
Further investigations are ongoing regarding the smuggling of snakes.
In a separate part of the operation, another individual engaged in the illegal trade of cockatoos was caught red-handed. The authorities have initiated legal proceedings against both individuals.
Wildlife officials stated that the operation was conducted to protect wildlife and curb illegal trade activities. They also emphasized that wildlife trafficking is not only harmful to the environment but is also a punishable crime under the law.
The arrested dealers will be presented in court, and strict legal action will be taken against them.
Wildlife authorities have called on the public to report any illegal wildlife trade activities to ensure the protection of wildlife and prevent such criminal activities.
