Bollywood actor Sonu Sood, often referred to as the 'messiah of the helpless', is now facing legal challenges after his name surfaced in connection with around $12,000 (INR 10 lakh) fraud case.
An arrest warrant has been issued for him in Ludhiana city of India's Punjab state, as part of the ongoing investigation.
The case stems from an alleged financial fraud where a Ludhiana-based lawyer, Rajesh Khanna, claims to have been deceived into investing in a fake scheme.
Mohit Shukla, the main accused in the case, is alleged to have misled Khanna into making fraudulent investments. Sonu Sood has been implicated indirectly in the case, leading to the issuance of the arrest warrant.
Sood, who failed to appear in court after being summoned, is now legally bound to face the charges, with the next hearing scheduled for February 10.
The arrest warrant has attracted significant media attention, as Sonu Sood had previously gained widespread praise for his philanthropic work during the COVID-19 pandemic, helping thousands of migrant workers and people in need.
The case is still under investigation, and the upcoming hearing could determine the actor's legal fate.
