PESHAWAR:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram has alleged that the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja played a pivotal role in implementing the "minus-Imran formula".

Speaking at a news conference in Peshawar, Akram stated that no previous election commissioner in the country's history had taken such a controversial stance.

He highlighted that the higher judiciary had repeatedly raised objections to the CEC's decisions, and in response, PTI leader Omar Ayub had filed a reference against the commissioner in the Supreme Judicial Council.

Akram further claimed that PTI had completed its groundwork regarding the appointment of a new CEC and urged the prime minister to form a parliamentary committee on the matter soon.

Addressing the issue of a letter reportedly sent to the army chief, Akram confirmed that it was indeed written by PTI founder. "The message has been delivered to those it was intended for," he remarked. He also criticised the CEC's role in "delaying Senate elections" in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the allocation of reserved seats for women.

He further condemned the ongoing crackdown on PTI members, alleging that illegal arrests were taking place in Punjab and Balochistan while party offices were being forcibly shut down.

Akram announced that PTI supporters would gather nationwide on Feb 8 to observe a "Black Day" and ensure the success of the party's scheduled rally.
