RAWALPINDI:

The Punjab government has decided to distribute direct financial aid to eligible families instead of organising subsidised Ramazan bazaars or ration packages this year.

A total of Rs30 billion will be allocated for the initiative, ensuring that each deserving household receives Rs10,000 at their doorstep.

The financial assistance will be disbursed through the Bank of Punjab, with payments delivered via Pakistan Post's home distribution service. Beneficiaries will be required to verify their identity using their national ID card and biometric authentication before withdrawing the amount.

Registration for the scheme began on February 1 and will continue until February 15.

Only pre-registered families will be eligible for the aid.

However, it was reported on Tuesday that Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema has called a joint meeting of all departments concerned, wholesalers of food items and essential commodities, and fruit and vegetable market dealers next week to set up 16 cheap Ramazan bazaars.
