LAHORE: Three public universities in Lahore on Wednesday announced closure till September 23 to allow uninterrupted fumigation.

After the Higher Education Department notification to all schools and colleges to close down for 10 days for spraying, the Government College University (GCU), Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) and Punjab University (PU) have announced vacations for students. Staff and faculty will, however, be on duty.

GCU Registrar Anjum Nisar told The Express Tribune that examinations have also been rescheduled.

He said that the admissions schedule will not be affected by the notification.

He said that September 15 remained the last date for submission of admission forms for MPhil/MS, and September 19 for BA/BSc.

A PU spokesman said that the summer vacations at PU, scheduled to end on September 19, had been extended by one week. University offices will remain open, he said. The LCWU will also remain closed till September 23. The faculty will hold an awareness walk on the campus on Thursday (today).

Private universities will be fumigated around classes which will carry on as routine.
