The government has raised concerns over the security risks posed by wearable smart devices, including smartwatches and fitness trackers, labelling them as a potential threat to cybersecurity, Express News reported.

The National Telecom and Information Technology Security Board (NTISB) issued the advisory, warning that these devices could compromise sensitive information. According to sources, the Cabinet Division has recommended a ban on the use of such devices at sensitive locations.

The cybersecurity advisory highlighted the risks of data leakage and unauthorised tracking posed by wearable devices. "These smart devices are being used to leak confidential information, and their use at sensitive locations could lead to cyberattacks," the advisory stated.

The NTISB further advised that before any use of these devices at sensitive locations, a thorough review of their security mechanisms should be carried out. The advisory also recommended imposing restrictions on their use during crucial meetings or at locations dealing with sensitive operations.

With concerns over privacy and national security on the rise, the advisory signals a growing focus on safeguarding digital environments against potential threats.
