Zoe Saldaña responded to the controversy surrounding her Emilia Pérez co-star Karla Sofía Gascón’s bigoted tweets during a Friday Q&A in London.

The best supporting actress Oscar nominee expressed her sadness, emphasizing her commitment to inclusivity and respect.

When moderator Edith Bowman asked about the situation, Saldaña shared her feelings, stating, “I’m still processing everything that has transpired in the last couple of days, and I’m sad.” She continued, “It makes me really sad because I don’t support [it], and I don’t have any tolerance for any negative rhetoric towards people of any group.”

Saldaña clarified that her personal experience with the Emilia Pérez cast was one of collaboration and respect. “My interactions with them were about inclusivity and collaboration, as well as racial, cultural, and gender equity,” she said. She also added, “It saddens me that we are having to face this setback right now, but I’m happy that you’re all here and still showing up for Emilia.”

The actress concluded by reaffirming the positive impact of the film, emphasizing the importance of the story's message for marginalized communities. “All of us that came together to tell this story, we came together for love and for respect and curiosity,” Saldaña stated, expressing hope that the film’s message would continue to inspire positive change.
