Semis line-up for girls event complete

The final of the boys basketball event and the girls event semifinals and finals of the 8th Commissioner Karachi Cup Basketball Tournament will be played here on Thursday (today).

Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi will be the chief guest on the occasion and will distribute the prizes. A fireworks display has also been planned on the occasion.

The boys semifinals are currently being held on Wednesday night.

In the girls basketball quarter-finals played on Wednesday, Bahria College beat Karachi University Club 16-8, PECHS BCP beat BSS Johar 17-9, Indus Academy outplayed SJAS 21-12 and BSS North Nazimabad crushed BSS Gulshan 18-4 to qualify for the semifinals of the tournament.

The outstanding performers of the girls quarter-finals were Dua, Romesha, Javeria, Maima Altaf, Reshni Christopher, Laiba, Anila Hassan, Tazeen Haris, Hina Moin, Subaita, Safeena, Fatima Siddiqui, Aruba Siddiqui, Alisha, Mehama, Aaira Naveed.

Before the matches, the players were introduced to AC Aram Bagh Mantha Azhar and AC Lyari Majid Altaf. Notable personalities present at the event included Ghulam Muhammad Khan, Tariq Hussain, Fawad Amjad Ali and others.

The tournament is being held under the approval of Karachi Basketball Association (KBA) at the International Abdul Nasir Basketball Court, Aram Bagh.

Later, an awards ceremony will be held to honour prominent personalities with the Brigadier (Retd.) Rasheed Ali Malik Basketball Awards.
