Klay Thompson delivered a dominant performance on as the Dallas Mavericks cruised to a 130-108 victory over the struggling Washington Wizards at the American Airlines Center.

Thompson led all scorers with 23 points, 21 of which came in a blistering first quarter that set the tone for Dallas’ comprehensive win.

Thompson, in just his second game back from an ankle injury, shot 7-of-12 from beyond the arc and 8-of-15 overall. His seven three-pointers in the opening period equalled the Mavericks’ franchise record for most three-pointers in a quarter, a record shared with teammate Luka Dončić.

The veteran guard also became just the second NBA player, alongside J.R. Smith, to hit seven or more three-pointers in a single quarter on three occasions.

Beyond Thompson’s heroics, Olivier-Maxence Prosper contributed a career-high 20 points, while Kyrie Irving added 13. Kylor Kelley, signed from the G League, made his NBA debut in the fourth quarter, registering one point and four rebounds.

With the game firmly in hand, Dallas rested its starters, including Thompson, in the final frame.

After the game, Thompson remembered the late Kobe Bryant, who passed away in 2020.

For the Wizards, rookie Bilal Coulibaly scored 16 points, providing one of the few bright spots in an otherwise difficult outing. Washington, now 6-39, completed a winless six-game road trip and extended its road losing streak to 21 games.

The Mavericks improved to 25-22, climbing to eighth in the Western Conference standings, just half a game behind the Minnesota Timberwolves. They will begin a five-game road trip on Wednesday against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Meanwhile, the Wizards return home to face the Toronto Raptors, seeking to snap their 14-game losing streak and find momentum in an increasingly challenging season.
