Indian cricketer Tilak Verma has shattered a remarkable world record in T20 International cricket. The 22-year-old left-hander, in a series of extraordinary performances, has accumulated over 318 runs in his last four T20 matches for India without being dismissed.
During the second match of India's ongoing home series against England, Verma scored an unbeaten 72 runs, extending his impressive streak.
This makes him the first batter in the world to score more than 300 runs in T20 internationals without being dismissed, surpassing the previous record held by New Zealand's Mark Chapman, who had scored 271 runs without getting out.
Verma’s streak began with a stunning 107 and 120 runs against South Africa, followed by a 19 and his recent 72 runs against England.
He has now set a new benchmark for T20 batting, showcasing remarkable consistency and composure.
Verma’s achievement also surpasses Australian stars like Aaron Finch (240 runs) and David Warner (239 runs), who were previously among the top players in this category.
Earlier, India successfully chased down 166 to win the first T20I against England by seven wickets in Kolkata. England set a total of 165-9, with Jos Buttler (45) and Brydon Carse (31) being the top scorers.
Despite being reduced to 78-5, Tilak Varma's brilliant 72* guided India to victory, with key contributions from Washington Sundar (26) and Abhishek Sharma (12).
England’s bowlers struggled, especially Jofra Archer, who conceded 60 runs. India chased the target with four balls to spare and will now aim to extend their lead in the third match in Rajkot.
