Envoy highlights strong China-Pakistan ties

Reflects on 2024's achievements, future prospects during Chinese New Year event.

On the occasion of the "Chinese New Year, We Celebrate Together" celebration, Ambassador Jiang Zaidong of the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan delivered a heartfelt speech, reflecting on the deepening ties between China and Pakistan, while marking the significance of the upcoming Spring Festival, or Lunar New Year.

Ambassador Jiang began by warmly welcoming guests and expressing sincere gratitude to those who support China-Pakistan relations. He highlighted 2024 as a year of both achievement and resilience for China, with the nation's GDP reaching a historic 134.9 trillion yuan, and its agricultural and industrial sectors showing record growth.

He also noted China's leadership in global initiatives, such as the Belt and Road Initiative, and the solid progress made in global cooperation, especially through the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and BRICS.

Turning to the bilateral relationship, Ambassador Jiang shared optimism about the ongoing partnership between China and Pakistan. He spoke about major developments, including the opening of the Khunjerab Pass year-round, the launch of Pakistan's satellite into space, and the successful opening of the new Gwadar International Airport. He praised Pakistan's economic reforms, noting positive developments such as an expected 3.5% GDP growth for the year and improvements in foreign investment and remittances.

Ambassador Jiang emphasised that these tangible outcomes represent the strength of China-Pakistan relations and their shared vision for mutual development. He reiterated China's commitment to working closely with Pakistan to enhance cooperation through initiatives like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and to further strengthen their all-weather strategic cooperation.

As the Spring Festival approaches, Ambassador Jiang celebrated the cultural significance of the Chinese New Year, a time for family reunions and a symbol of peace and harmony. He noted that the festival's growing international recognition, including its recent inscription on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list, reflects China's dedication to fostering global cultural exchanges.

Ambassador Jiang concluded with a warm wish for a prosperous and happy Spring Festival, emphasising that China and Pakistan's friendship will remain steadfast, and their joint efforts will help shape a shared future of peace and success.
