Wes Burns potentially out for months following ACL injury

Wes Burns may face a lengthy recovery after suffering a potential ACL injury during Ipswich Town’s match against Liverpool.

The 30-year-old winger was stretchered off in the 25th minute following a challenge with Cody Gakpo. Burns received treatment for several minutes as medical staff assessed his knee, before being replaced by Ben Johnson.

Physio Scout, a sports injury analysis source, raised concerns over an ACL tear, citing the inward collapse of Burns' knee during a pivoting motion. The analysis suggests a potential recovery time of over nine months, although there is a slim possibility it could involve a less severe MCL injury, meniscus issue, or bone bruise.

Burns has been a key player for Ipswich this season, making 18 Premier League appearances under manager Kieran McKenna. He joined the club from Fleetwood in 2021 and has been instrumental in their promotion to the Premier League. Before his injury, Liverpool led 1-0 through Dominik Szoboszlai's goal.
