SJAS Red defeated SJAS Green 6-2 in the opening match of the 8th Commissioner Karachi Cup Girls and Boys Basketball Tournament, which was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner South District Karachi Javed Nabi Khoso in a colourful ceremony here on Friday.
The tournament is being held under the permission of KBBA.
Kashif Farooqi, Irshad Ali and Shahid Ansari scored 2 points each for SJAS Red team, while Muhammad Iqbal scored 2 points for the runner-up SJAS Green.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasised the importance of sports on this occasion and announced that the doors of his office are open day and night for players and sports organisers.
On this occasion, Asif Gulfam, SJAS President Mahmood Riaz, Secretary Shahid Arab Saty and sports organiser Abdul Hameed Baloch also spoke.
In the second match of the day, Bahria Supers defeated BCP Gulshan Chapters 39-34. Bilal Rauf scored 24 points for the winner team, Tayyab Jadoon scored 4 points and Ali Rehman scored 4 points.
Abdul Hanan scored 9 points for the runner team, Saqib Hussain scored 8 points and Mohib scored 6 points.
In the third match, Civil Tigers defeated Karachi Colts by 35-26 points. For the winning team, Haris Shahid scored 12, Muhammad Ahmed scored 8 and Munib Channa scored 5, while for the runner team, Muhammad Sameer scored 8, Ahmed Raza and Abdul Qadir scored 6 points each.
On this occasion, Ghulam Muhammad Khan announced that the winner and runner of the tournament will be given cash prizes by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi, while other prizes will be given by Metro Pakistan, Kati and New Nazimabad Gymkhana.
