In an interview with Variety, Dylan O’Brien is reflecting on his collaboration with Taylor Swift for her critically acclaimed short film, "All Too Well". The 2021 project, which marked Swift’s directorial debut, showcased the singer-songwriter’s storytelling talent and further cemented O’Brien’s reputation as a versatile actor.
Although the Teen Wolf and Maze Runner star admitted that music videos were outside his comfort zone, he praised Swift for creating an environment where he felt confident in his role. “Taylor had the absolute right instinct to be like, ‘I hired these actors because I am a fan of their work, and I’m going to let them come in and do that work,’” O’Brien shared.
In "All Too Well', O’Brien starred alongside Sadie Sink in a raw, emotional portrayal of a fractured relationship, bringing Swift’s narrative to life. The film resonated deeply with fans and earned widespread acclaim, with its release sparking conversations about Swift’s artistry beyond music.
O’Brien acknowledged Swift’s talent as a filmmaker, expressing admiration for her clear vision and ability to trust her collaborators. “I loved what she was trying to tell with that,” he said. “And I fully felt like I understood my role in it, and that excited me.”
As O’Brien continues to build a portfolio of thoughtful and ambitious projects, he credits experiences like All Too Well for shaping his approach to creativity. While his recent roles span indie films and Sundance premieres, working with Swift remains a standout moment in his career.
