HYDERABAD:

The Young Doctors Association has accused the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences of favouring certain candidates in its recent faculty appointments.

While speaking at a news conference on Tuesday, YDA President voiced concerns over what he called a lack of transparency and adherence to merit in the selection process.

"The appointments made by the selection board raise serious questions about fairness and meritocracy," said Dr Chandio. He alleged that nepotism in the university's administration has not only tarnished its reputation but also negatively impacted healthcare services.

Dr Chandio specifically pointed to the appointment of a female doctor, who he claimed is the spouse of a senior faculty member, as an example of favouritism.

The YDA also alleged that retired faculty members were being prioritised for positions that should be allocated to young consultants. The association announced plans to protest the appointments and hinted at filing a court petition to address their grievances.

Meanwhile, LUMHS has dismissed the YDA's accusations, saying that the appointments were made on merit. Additional Registrar Dr Saroop Bhatia defended the selection board, stressing that its members are highly reputed professionals.
