Pete Medhurst, the iconic voice of Navy Athletics, passed away after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Pete Medhurst, the beloved voice of Navy Athletics and a longtime fixture in Maryland sports, passed away on January 20, following a battle with a brain tumor. 

Known for his passionate and meticulous broadcasting, Pete became an integral part of Navy sports, bringing games to life for fans with his enthusiastic play-by-play commentary. His death leaves a significant void in both the Navy and broader sports communities.

Medhurst’s career spanned decades, beginning with 106.7 The Fan, where he served as an update anchor before rising to roles like morning anchor and Nationals post-game host. His passion for broadcasting led to his dream job as the primary fill-in play-by-play announcer for Nationals radio broadcasts.

In recent years, he co-hosted Russell & Medhurst on Audacy’s The Team 980, while continuing his work as the voice of Navy football, basketball, and other sports.

Despite his diagnosis, Medhurst faced his illness with remarkable strength, inspiring many with his resilience. The hashtag #Pray4Pete became a symbol of support, with tributes pouring in from fans and colleagues.

Audacy Sports VP Chris Kinard praised his sports knowledge and dedication, highlighting his love for his family above all. Pete is survived by his wife, Brenda, and children Cody, Ryan, and Kelly.
