Denis Law, one of football’s most revered figures and the only Scottish player to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or, has passed away at the age of 84.

Known as "The King" and "The Lawman," Law spent 11 glorious years at Manchester United, scoring 237 goals in 404 appearances and securing his legacy as the club’s third-highest scorer behind Wayne Rooney and Bobby Charlton.

Born in Aberdeen, Law began his professional career at Huddersfield Town before playing for Manchester City and Torino, setting British record transfer fees multiple times. He joined Manchester United in 1962, where he won two league titles, an FA Cup, and the European Cup, although he missed the 1968 final due to injury.

Internationally, Law earned 55 caps for Scotland, scoring 30 goals—a record he shares as the nation’s top scorer. In 1964, his remarkable form earned him the Ballon d’Or, cementing his status as one of the world’s best.

Diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia in 2021, Law continued to raise awareness and funds for dementia charities. His family released a heartfelt statement, saying, “He fought a tough battle but is now at peace.”

Tributes have poured in from clubs and football icons. Manchester United called him “one of the club’s greatest and most beloved players,” while Scotland’s national team hailed him as a “true great.”
