A suspected criminal was killed and two others managed to escape during an alleged police encounter in the Saddar Wah area of Rawalpindi. The spike in killing of individuals in police action raises eyebrows.
According to a police spokesperson, teams have been formed to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
He said the incident occurred during a routine patrol when a police team signaled a group of suspicious motorcyclists to stop.
Instead of complying, the suspects resisted and opened fire on the officers. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, one suspect, identified as Bilal alias Mithal Khan, was killed, while two others escaped while firing at the police. Police officials revealed that Bilal was a wanted fugitive involved in a murder case registered at the Saddar Wah police station.
He also had a criminal history, with records of vehicle theft, drug trafficking, attempted murder, and other serious crimes. Senior police officials, including City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Khalid Hamdani, visited the scene after the incident. The CPO commended the police team for their bravery in facing the armed suspects and emphasised that those who attack civilians or law enforcement personnel will not evade justice.
