Some cops misusing NADRA access facility

Online access to the National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) systems, granted to the Police Department for real-time verification of people, is allegedly being misused by some officials, credible sources told The Express Tribune.

Sensitive information from NADRA's verification system (Verisys), family tree data, and Criminal Record Office (CRO) has allegedly been exploited for personal gain, sources said. Some officials are accused of providing restricted data to criminals, online scammers, and data brokers in exchange for bribes, compromising the integrity of the system and endangering public security.

The issue was highlighted in a letter issued by Korangi District SSP Kamran Khan to all SHOs in his jurisdiction. The letter lists complaints received by the IG Sindh Police regarding the misuse of sensitive data, including access to NADRA's Civil Record Management System (CRMS).

The letter underscores the critical importance of maintaining the confidentiality of Verisys, call data records (CDRs), and family tree information. It directed the SHOs, head secretaries, and supervisors to enforce strict monitoring of access and usage of these systems, warning of strict departmental action against violators.
