Teen returning from mosque shot dead by muggers

The body was shifted to JPMC for medico-legal formalities.

KARACHI:

Armed robbers shot and killed a teenager as he was returning home after offering Fajr prayers in a mosque in Korangi on Wednesday morning. The victim, 17-year-old Muzaffar Iqbal, was fatally shot in Sector 51 C of Korangi within the remits of PS Zaman Town.

According to witnesses, the ruthless muggers had earlier raided three houses in the area before running into Muzaffar. Police speculated that the victim might have sensed the danger and tried to flee, but the trigger-happy muggers shot him in the back before making good on their escape.

The body was shifted to JPMC for medico-legal formalities. Muzaffar Iqbal, a construction worker hailing from Rajanpur district, leaves behind a grieving family, including his parents, a brother, and four sisters.

Local resident Muhammad Zohaib revealed that the robbers broke into his house around 6.30am, posing as police officers to gain entry. Wearing masks, the gang of over six muggers took the residents hostage and looted valuables, including gold jewelry, Rs500,000 in cash, five mobile phones, a motorcycle, blankets, and household items. While some members of the gang entered the house, others stayed in the street to keep watch.

Muzaffar Iqbal is the third victim of muggers to have been shot during armed robberies over the first 15 days of 2025, raising serious concerns about police performance in maintaining law and order.
