Walmart has unveiled a redesigned logo, marking the first update to its brand identity in nearly two decades. The new logo, revealed on Monday, draws inspiration from the trucker hat worn by the company’s founder, Sam Walton.

The updated design features a chunkier font, reminiscent of the typeface used by the retailer from the 1980s to the early 2000s. While the yellow “spark” symbol is retained, a darker blue color has been introduced to give the brand a fresher appearance.

The updated logo will first appear on Walmart's website and app this month, with plans for it to be gradually rolled out across its 10,500 stores, which are also undergoing a makeover.

William White, Walmart’s senior vice president and chief marketing officer, emphasized that the update reflects the company’s evolution and continued commitment to serving both current and future customers.

This logo refresh follows a previous update in 2008, when Walmart simplified its logo by dropping the star and combining the words “Wal” and “Mart.” That change came during a period of declining sales for Walmart, as the company faced increasing competition from other big box retailers like Target. However, the new design is being introduced at a time when Walmart's business is thriving.

In its most recent earnings report, the company reported a 5% sales growth at US stores open for at least a year, and an 8% increase in profit. Walmart’s success has been driven by its expanded grocery business, competitive pricing strategy amid inflation, and increased investment in its online operations, with US sales growing 22% in the last quarter.
