In a recent profile for New York Times shared about his brief separation from Christine Taylor in 2017 as well as their subsequent reconciiation a few years later around the Covid-19 pandemic. The actor talked about the challenges that the couple faced while getting back together.
“It was like three or four years that we weren’t together but we always were connected. In my mind, I never didn’t want us to be together:, he stated explaining that, “When we separated, it was just having space to see what our relationship was, what my life felt like when we weren’t in that relationship, how much I loved our family unit".
Stiller also revealed that despite living in the same space, it took the couple a whole year to truly reconcile as husband and wife and going through this challenging time instilled gratitude in him. “You have so much more appreciation for what you have, because we know we could not have it", he noted.
The couple who co-starred in Zoolander and Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story got married in 2000 and share two children, a son and a daughter.
Speaking on the separation, Taylor while appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show attributed it to 'growth' and emphasised the importance of their family in the helping the couple get back together.
“Family was always a priority, but I think Ben and I both sort of started to grow in different directions, and when we made the decision to separate, it was not something we wanted to talk publicly about,” she said, adding that they go through "growth spurts — even as adults — and I feel like we needed just some time to figure that out".
