Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has set a target of providing loan to 40,000 people by May for building their homes under the Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar programme.
Chairing a meeting, she approved an allocation of Rs62 billion for the housing programme and directed the authorities concerned to complete the process of providing the loans as soon as possible. She also directed the authorities to review a proposal to increase the loan amount from Rs1.5 million to Rs2 million.
The chief minister was informed that about 5,000 citizens across Punjab had obtained loans under the programme and more than 4,200 houses were nearing completion.
She was informed that poor families would also be provided houses in collaboration with the Ravi Urban Development Authority and housing and urban development department.
The chief minister said, "I want every homeless person to have his own roof." She added, "Apna Ghar is the fundamental right of every citizen."
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also paid tribute to the security forces for killing nine terrorists in North Waziristan. She said,"Salute to the brave security personnels who risk their lives to protect us. May Allah Almighty grant our security forces success in every field."
Meanwhile, FIA Cyber Crime Faisalabad teams arrested five suspects on charges of making fake videos of CM Maryam Nawaz and Emirati President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan through AI and making them viral.
FIA sources said the cybercrime staff made these arrests from Faisalabad, Lahore, Gujranwala and Multan.
