The food control cell of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has imposed fines amounting to Rs6.94 million during a crackdown on hotels, bakeries, factories and other establishments for violating food safety standards.
According to an official, 150 food samples have been sent for laboratory testing.
Over the past six months of the current fiscal year, actions were taken across various areas of the cantonment to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
Fines were imposed on establishments located in areas including Saddar, Gawalmandi, Peshawar Road, Misrial Road, Allahabad, Allama Iqbal Colony, Dhamial Road, Chakri Road, and Tench Bhatta. In the last month alone, fines amounting to Rs. 2.49 million were levied for poor hygiene, substandard conditions, and the absence of medical certifications at various restaurants, bakeries, tandoors, and other food outlets.
During the six-month period, the food control cell has been conducting daily inspections to identify and address violations of hygiene standards.
