KARACHI:

A woman was jailed for life for murdering her husband to pursue a relationship with her lover.

Additional District and Sessions Judge West Aurangzeb Shah sentenced Asma, the victim's wife, to life imprisonment, and sent her alleged lover, Ghulam Nabi, alias Didar, to the gallows after convicting both of the murder of Shah Zaman. The judge also imposed a fine of Rs500,000 on each of the convicts, ordering the amount be paid to the heirs of the deceased.

According to the judgment, the prosecution successfully proved the crime. Asma made a confession before a judicial magistrate, revealing that she had conspired to murder her husband to pursue a relationship with her Ghulam Nabi.

The victim's two sons, who witnessed the crime, testified that Asma drugged their father by lacing his milk with sleeping pills before killing him with electric shocks. Ghulam Nabi abetted the crime. The post-mortem report confirmed the eyewitness accounts.

According to the prosecution, after killing Shah Zaman in November 2019, the accused attempted to stage the death as a suicide. However, the victim's relatives found suspicious marks on his body and subsequently lodged an FIR at PS Pirabad.
