An officer of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has been apprehended for allegedly taking bribe from foreign ship crew during clearance. He is among other officials of the Authority, involved in the racket.
Former in-charge of FIA Immigration at Port Qasim, ASI Attaullah Memon allegedly took $2,000 from eight Romanian technicians aboard a foreign ship for giving them illegal clearance.
The technicians had traveled aboard the ship from India's Mundra Port to Pakistan's Port Qasim. Attaullah Memon, along with staff member Zohaib, initially demanded $4,000 from the ship's agent but later settled for $2,000.
Under international immigration laws, technicians are permitted to work on board ships.
