The Rawalpindi Anti-Corruption Circle arrested a police constable from the Race Course police station for allegedly extorting money by threatening a citizen with false drug charges.
According to a spokesperson, the arrest was made during a raid in the People's Colony area, where the constable was caught red-handed accepting marked currency notes.
Officials revealed that the complainant, Junaid, filed an application with the director of anti-corruption Rawalpindi circle, stating that he had previously been involved in legal cases but had since reformed and was now leading an honest life.
However, a police official, identified as Constable Babar, allegedly harassed him by threatening to frame him in drug-related cases unless he paid bribes.
Junaid claimed that Constable Babar, along with another official, Hafeezur Rehman Niazi, had already extorted a total of Rs0.2 million from him and Babar was now demanding an additional Rs50,000.
Officials confirmed that a case has been registered against the accused, and further investigation is underway.
