Leaks about the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 are flooding the gaming community, but Nintendo remains tight-lipped about its next-generation console.
Despite fans’ growing impatience, Nintendo has clarified during recent game showcases that they won’t release details about the Switch successor yet.
Recent leaks, however, reveal plenty of information about the Switch 2. A GameStop listing suggests support for MicroSD cards with storage options ranging from 256 GB to 512 GB. Reports indicate that the console's power may rival the PS4 Pro when docked and the base PS4 in handheld mode. Digital Foundry even analyzed a leaked Switch 2 motherboard, and accessory maker Genki has displayed products based on a mockup of the console.
The Switch 2 reportedly follows a design philosophy similar to its predecessor, resembling an enhanced version of the current model. This design continuity marks a departure from Nintendo’s history of bold hardware redesigns between generations, raising concerns about potential consumer confusion. Some speculate that a name like "New Nintendo Switch Plus" could be misunderstood as an incremental upgrade rather than a new console.
Still, the Switch 2 is expected to perform well commercially. The original Switch, with over 146 million units sold, is the third best-selling console in history, trailing only the Nintendo DS and PlayStation 2. Analysts predict that the Switch 2 could easily surpass 100 million units sold. Fans eagerly await Nintendo's official announcement to confirm or debunk the swirling rumors.
