Graceland celebrates Elvis Presley’s 90th birthday with events honoring his legacy and music

Graceland honors Elvis Presley’s 90th birthday with exhibits, concerts, and stories from those who knew him best.

Elvis Presley's 90th birthday is being commemorated with a series of events at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, from January 8 to 11, 2025. The festivities began with the annual Elvis Birthday Proclamation Ceremony on January 8, featuring local officials declaring "Elvis Presley Day" in Memphis and Shelby County.

Graceland is deeply significant to Elvis Presley as it was his home, sanctuary, and the embodiment of his legacy. Purchased by Elvis in 1957 at the age of 22, Graceland served as his primary residence until his death in 1977. Beyond being a private retreat, it was where he entertained friends, family, and colleagues, and where he made some of his most iconic decisions and creations as a musician and entertainer.

A highlight of the celebration is the "90 for 90" exhibit, showcasing 90 curated artifacts from Graceland's extensive collection. This exhibit offers fans a glimpse into both iconic and rare items from Elvis's life and career, including a sketchbook with his karate film notes, a pair of checkered boots, and a 1954 Blackwood Brothers Quartet performance card. The exhibit is included in all Graceland tour options and will remain open through December 2025.

Musical tributes are central to the celebration. The Elvis Birthday Pops Concert, featuring Terry Mike Jeffrey and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, took place on January 8, delivering renditions of Elvis's ballads and anthems. On January 9, the Elvis Music Salute featured performances by artists who collaborated with Elvis, including singer-songwriter Larry Gatlin, whose songs "Help Me" and "Bitter They Are, Harder They Fall" were recorded by Elvis. Richard Sterban of the Oak Ridge Boys, who sang backup for Elvis as part of JD Sumner and the Stamps Quartet, and Terry Blackwood of The Imperials also shared their experiences and music.

The celebration continues with the "Elvis: Live on Stage" show on January 10, featuring Elvis's vocals accompanied by a live band, providing an immersive concert experience for attendees. Additionally, the "Conversations on Elvis" panel offers personal stories and insights from individuals who knew and worked with the King of Rock 'n' Roll, including Estelle Brown of The Sweet Inspirations and martial arts legend Bill "Superfoot" Wallace.

For fans unable to attend in person, the Elvis Birthday Proclamation Ceremony was streamed online, allowing global participation in honoring Elvis's legacy.

These events not only celebrate Elvis Presley's contributions to music and culture but also reflect the enduring impact he has on fans worldwide, even 90 years after his birth.
