Cynthia Erivo, the star of Wicked, has expressed her desire to portray Storm in Marvel Studios’ anticipated X-Men reboot.
Speaking to the National Board of Review, Erivo revealed that the iconic Marvel superhero is her next dream role.
“I really want to play Storm,” Erivo said. “I don’t think we’ve uncovered how grand she is and all of the inner turmoil that she has. There’s a world in which we could do something like that.”
Erivo’s comments come as fan-casting for the role gains momentum, especially with Marvel Studios gradually introducing Mutants into the MCU through projects like Ms. Marvel, Deadpool & Wolverine, and the animated series X-Men ’97. With Kevin Feige hinting at a greater focus on Mutants after Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, casting for the X-Men team could become a significant priority in the years ahead.
Storm, a fan-favorite character known for her weather-manipulating powers and strong leadership in the X-Men, remains an untapped well of storytelling potential in live-action adaptations. Erivo, celebrated for her powerhouse performances, could bring new depth and nuance to the character.
Meanwhile, Erivo continues to shine in her role as Elphaba Thropp in Wicked, with the second installment, Wicked: For Good, set to release in November 2025. As fans await updates on Marvel’s X-Men plans, Erivo’s enthusiasm for the role of Storm adds another layer of excitement to the MCU’s future.
