ISLAMABAD:

Islamabad's DIG Police, Syed Ali Raza, has initiated departmental action against several police officers for their failure to curb crime and negligence in their duties. This includes the dismissal of a Dolphin Squad official involved in bribery and blackmailing citizens.

According to sources, action was taken against Sharafat Ali, the SHO of Noon Police Station, for his inability to control crime and his poor performance. The authorities have reduced his service by three years and forced him into retirement for neglecting his responsibilities and failing to address citizens' issues. Additionally, his departmental promotion has been halted for one year.

Similarly, Ashfaq Warraich, SHO of Secretariat Police Station, faced a reduction of two years in service and forced retirement due to negligence, poor performance, and failure to manage crime. Similarly, SHO Muhammad Yousuf of Shams Colony Police Station and SHO Irshad Cheema of Sabzi Mandi Police Station were also forced into retirement after their service was reduced by two years for failing to tackle crime and neglecting their professional duties.

In another development, DIG Raza responded to a complaint involving Constable Hassan Maqsood from the newly established Dolphin Squad, which is responsible for preventing street crime. The squad's personnel were accused of harassing citizens by setting up checkpoints instead of conducting patrols. Additionally, they were reported to be extorting bribes. As a result of the complaint, the Dolphin official was dismissed.

DIG Raza has been holding open courts to address public concerns regarding the Federal Police. The most frequent complaints have been against SHO Ashfaq Warraich, SHO Sharafat Ali, SHO Irshad Cheema, and SHO Muhammad Yousuf. Raza has instructed all SHOs to improve their handling of public complaints and to resolve issues promptly. He warned that any further failure to address complaints or mistreatment of citizens would result in further departmental action.

The DIG has also reviewed the departmental records of the implicated SHOs, noting a lack of crime prevention and serious negligence in their duties. In response, he has implemented strict disciplinary measures against them.

DIG Raza reiterated that the accountability process within Islamabad police will remain ongoing. He emphasised that no leniency would be shown towards officers and officials involved in corruption, as Islamabad police follows a policy of self-accountability. "No one is above the law," he declared.

The DIG also urged all police personnel to adopt a proactive approach in preventing crime and improving public relations. He stressed that the primary goal of the Islamabad Police is to serve the citizens with integrity and professionalism.
