Iconic filmmaker John Waters has expressed his admiration for Joker 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 hit.

Known for his unconventional tastes, Waters included the movie in his annual “favorite films” list, sparking surprise among fans and critics alike.

“Joker 2 is great, well-developed, and they sing showtunes!” Waters remarked in a recent interview, dismissing negative reviews. The film, directed by Todd Phillips, continues the story of the titular antihero, blending psychological drama with musical elements.

While many critics panned the sequel for its unexpected genre shift, Waters praised its boldness. “The critics were wrong on that one,” he asserted, adding that Quentin Tarantino also found merit in the film. “I absolutely loved it, and it’s one of the rare movies I felt compelled to watch in a hotel room.”

Despite its polarizing reception, Joker 2 has found a niche audience, and Waters’ endorsement adds to its growing cult status. With his unique perspective and enthusiasm, Waters proves once again that he champions art that defies convention
