MIRANSHAH:

A grand jirga of the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe has completely rejected the government decision to allow border crossing with Afghanistan on visa and passports.

The Jirga was held on Tuesday at Angur Ada tehsil of South Waziristan tribal district located at the Pak-Afghan border, in which a large number of tribal elders and youth participated.

It unanimously declared that travel through visas and passports would not be accepted under any circumstances. According to the Jirga decision, the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe residing in Barmal district of Afghanistan's Paktika province will form a committee to take measures against travel requiring passports.

Furthermore, it was decided that the National Negotiation Committee (NNC) in Angur Ada will not hold any jirga with the local authorities in the future, and strict restrictions will be imposed in this regard.

The Jirga also made it clear that except in the case of a dead body, no person will be allowed to travel on passports, unless the Ahmadzai tribe is given the right to exemption from the One Document Regime (ODR).
